The Creative Act of Reconstruction

The Creative Act of Reconstruction

For years I have been working with survivors of so many kinds of abuse – including spiritual abuse. As a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, I work with clients for whom the greatest loss they have experienced is rooted in the realization that they no longer believed what they had been told growing up about God, their own worthiness, and the “rules.” They are in the process of deconstructing their faith system and it feels unsettling, to say the least.

In the church we don’t often talk about doubt and questions without assuming that someone is “caught up in sin” or “being mislead.” Religious people will often shame anyone who expresses not being sure about the God, the Bible, or their faith. Some may even be shamed and chastised for questioning the leadership of their church.

No more! We believe that questioning can be healthy and formative for your faith journey. There is no such thing as one size fits all when it comes to your faith journey or your relationship with Divine Love.

My heart sister, Stephanie Moors, and I have done the work of deconstruction together and separately over a number of years. We’ve walked with other on their journeys, too. We know the loneliness, the crazy making, and the agony that goes along with not being able to feel grounded in the faith traditions, beliefs, and communities.

We have put together this offering, this 4-week series to help you find companionship, language and resources as you do this work.

AND, we talk about how our journeys have come to the different places that we are in right now – still loving Jesus, still loving humanity, still loving each other and in different ways of doing all of this.

Come! Be part of the conversation. No shame, no judgment. Just honesty, love, and acceptance.
